Thue Bisgaard is Professor of Surgery in Copenhagen and credited with more than 120 publications (50 on hernia-related topics) and 6 book chapters. He is former president of the Danish National Hernia Database (now in the steering committee). Main interests are upper GI, hernia and postoperative outcomes.

Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery, at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, is the Director of the Lichtenstein Amid Hernia Institute. Trained by Dr. Parviz Amid and has extensively lectured, published, and is an internationally recognized expert on hernia repair and chronic pain after hernia surgery Focus is on treatment, education, and research for hernia surgery abdominal wall reconstruction, and remedial surgery for chronic pain.

Henrik Kehlet was Professor of Surgery at Copenhagen University and is now Professor of Perioperative Therapy at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University, Denmark. Professor Kehlet’s research interests have focused on surgical pathophysiology, acute pain physiology and treatment, the transition from acute to chronic pain, postoperative fatigue and organ dysfunction. These efforts have condensed to form the concept of ‘fast-track surgery’ with the aim of achieving the ‘pain and risk-free operation’

Dr. Rudi Roumen was educated and trained as surgeon oncologist in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He started a surgical pain research cooperation with dr. Marc Scheltinga (a vascular surgeon) in Eindhoven/Veldhoven from 2000 on. He co-authored more than 200 PubMed articles and is currently involved in various lines of surgical research including chronic abdominal wall (ACNES) and groin pain syndromes, as well as breast cancer.

Senior Consultant Mads U. Werner, MD, PhD, DMSc is an anesthesiologist specialized in management of pain. Main research area is pathophysiology of persistent postsurgical painhas published 120 research publications in peer-reviewed journals and (h-index/i10-index = 26/54; 3,780 citations) and 50 chapters in medical textbooks.
