WHAT is it all about

Chronic pain is a serious complication affecting >5% of patients after groin hernia repair. Chronic pain has huge implications on patients quality of life, ability to perform at work, during leisure, and to participate in normal family life. Since groin hernia repair is the most often conducted gastrointestinal surgical procedure (more than 300,000 per year in the USA and 10,000 in Denmark) chronic pain also has remarkable economic implications on society.

Although several risk factors are now known, the pathophysiologic mechanisms for chronic postoperative groin pain is far from understood and clinical treatment results still leaves much to be desired.
The symposium will critically elucidate and discuss state of the art on etiology, risk factors, clinical implications, treatment, and clinical outcomes in patients with severe disabling chronic pain after groin hernia repair.
Symposium Structure: Oral Presentations, Plenary Discussions, and Video Demonstrations.
